In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of California State University Los Angeles, renowned composer and professor of Music Composition, Dr. John M. Kennedy will premiere his multi-cultural piece, "Sidewalks". Scott Detweiler's lyric, crafted especially for this piece, has been set to music by the composer and will be included in the premiere. Kennedy and Detweiler have previously worked together with the Chamber Players of Los Angeles. Detweiler will attend this spectacular world-premiere event. (All ages, open to the public).
Detweiler's GUMBO NATION returns not only bring their authentic interpretations of classic and modern Mardi Gras music to Collage, but will also provide enlightening content in between songs, regarding the history of Mardi Gras, its meaning and relevance to the unique culture of New Orleans and its role in birthing and sustaining her signature music and rhythms. Those in attendance will surely be left with a greater understanding of this tradition that has lasted over 300 years, at the same time that they enjoy the emotional power of this celebratory music.
